The Maldives is a small island nation located in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Sri Lanka and India. Comprising of over 1,000 coral islands, the Maldives is known for its crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and world-class resorts. Tourism is the country’s main industry, with visitors drawn to its picturesque scenery, scuba diving and snorkelling opportunities, and luxury accommodation options. The Maldives is also home to a rich and diverse marine ecosystem, with over 2,000 species of fish and other marine life. The capital city of the Maldives is MalĂ©, and the official language is Dhivehi, although many people also speak English. The country is known for its unique geography, with most of its islands lying less than 1 meter above sea level, making it vulnerable to rising sea levels caused by climate change.
