The Maldives is a small island nation located in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Sri Lanka and India. Comprising of over 1,000 coral islands, the Maldives is known for its crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and world-class resorts. Tourism is the country’s main industry, with visitors drawn to its picturesque scenery, scuba diving and snorkelling opportunities, and luxury accommodation options. The Maldives is also home to a rich and diverse marine ecosystem, with over 2,000 species of fish and other marine life. The capital city of the Maldives is Malé, and the official language is Dhivehi, although many people also speak English. The country is known for its unique geography, with most of its islands lying less than 1 meter above sea level, making it vulnerable to rising sea levels caused by climate change.
